The newly arrived graduates of the institutes of higher education in the former Soviet Union set up an alumini association called Mitra Kunj in 1967. Perhaps it was the first officially launched alumini association of Nepalese after completing their studies abroad. Since then Mitra Kunj has been the meeting place of the Russia educated Nepalese, and has been the place where they can talk about the problems and prospects of the professionals trained in the former Soviet union and Current Common wealth of Independent States (CIS).
