I would like to welcome you all and delighted to announce 6th Asia Meet & International Conference which has aims to unite graduates from the former Soviet Union and Russia under one platform. Mitra Kunj has consistently led efforts to bring together Soviet and Russian graduates globally and fostering cooperation among alumni of Vipusniki networks worldwide. Additionally, we seek to strengthen ties between Vipusniki institutions to foster professional collaboration and excellence in friendship and Culture.
As we approach the 57th Anniversary and the 6th Asia Meet, scheduled on May 17-19, 2024, we recognize the importance of branding our organization on an international arena. This event provides us with an invaluable opportunity to showcase the achievements and contributions of our organization and nation, while also highlighting the talents and accomplishments of our esteemed organization.
We invite each and every one of you to collaborate with us and contribute to the success of this landmark event. History
Diplomatic relation between the then Soviet Union and the Kingdom was established on July 20, 1956. Late King Mahendra visited USSR from June 4 to 26, 1958 at invitation of the then president of USSR Mr. KE Voroshilov. Agreement and MoU were conceded between two countries in different disciplines including scholarships for higher education.
In 1963, Nepalese students studying in the USSR decided to create a Library of Russian books in Kathmandu. They started to raise fund of 2 Rubles per year from each students. Library was run by Nepal Soviet Friendship Association in Basantapur, Kathmandu. Many students benefitted from the library.
In 1967, “Mitra Kunj was established under the leadership of Mr. Nilamber Acharya. This was the first Alumni Association in Nepal. The word ‘Mitra’ means friend and ‘Kunj’ means hub or club. In Russian it is Клуб Друзей.
In 1968, Mitra Kunj helped Nepal Soviet Friendship Association to conduct Russian language classes for the Nepalese students. Many students got opportunity to study in Soviet Union and some got opportunity to learn and familiarize with Russian language.
Main objectives of Mitra Kunj are to unite (graduates from then Soviet Union) and CIS countries and upgrade their knowledge in the service of the country and people as well as strengthen friendship between Nepal Russia. Since 1967 to date many changes have taken place over these six decades, but Mitra Kunj has not deviated from its noble purpose. Moreover, with the growth of the numbers of the graduates from Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries their contributions have grown in the nation building.
The contributions of Mitra Kunj members have been very appreciable mostly in the hydropower development, Education, Infrastructure development, Agriculture development and health sectors. People and Government of Nepal have appreciated for their pivotal role in the development of country.
Mitra Kunj is proud to state that, in spite of many difficulties in course of its 57 years existence. It has not only survived but played a significant role towards the social, cultural, technical and economic development of Nepal.
Objectives
- Establish a healthy academic environment for the promotion of mutual cooperation. Knowledge and professionalism among the alumni from the former Soviet Union and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.
- Carryout necessary activities for the strengthening of relationship between the educational institutions and their graduates/experts.
- Establish fruitful relationship between different intellectual groups from Nepal and other countries so that they can play an effective and efficient role in the development of science and technology for the overall development of respective countries.
